The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
