The Battle Royale's Specialized Traversal Techniques Become Widely Accessible During This Update

The game developers have an exciting surprise prepared for Apex Legends gamers, arriving just in time for festive season. Enthusiasts of this game's super-slick traversal will be pleased to discover that a new movement mechanic will be introduced when the Amped season goes live on Nov. 4.

Unveiling Mantle Boosting

Named "Mantle Boosting" by the developers, this ability gives players a surge of forward momentum when climbing over ledges and walls. As explained lead battle royale designer the design lead, Mantle Boosting was previously existed of the game for some time, often called as "mantle jumping." But it's no easy feat for the average player, and is mainly used by pro gamers in Ranked Mode or esports competitions. This season, the team simplifies the process for players of all skill levels to execute these tricky movement boosts.

"Mantle Boosts have been in Apex for a while, but executing it requires skill to perform and a player would never know it [is in the game] without outside knowledge," the designer states. "Now including a visual cue so users can easily see when and how to activate the high-octane movement ability, making accessible the mechanic and introducing new ways to play for a much wider base."

Why Make It Accessible

Why make a once niche technique available to all players? Principal designer Josh Mohan says developers wants gamers to feel powerful — including ones who are new.

"Our community is doing advanced techniques like super-glides and tap-strafes, and we looked around at other games, observed what the community are doing, and we wondered, 'How can we extend some of this power to a broader audience?'" Mohan clarifies. "Because right now, some of these techniques are kind of janky to use — you need to remap your keybinds and execute within one-frame windows. So we said, 'What if we make a polished version?'"

The Amped Update Emphasis on Mobility

Mobility is largely the central theme in Season 27, with characters Horizon, the defensive specialist, and the aerial combatant receiving enhancements to help keep them in motion. Recovery time on Horizon's Gravity Lift is shorter, and this skill will propel users upward much quicker than before. Rampart's Amped Cover now include a roof and the ability to grant movement bonuses to allies in range. But the spotlight is on aerial this Legend who's getting significant improvements now, with multiple tweaks implemented to make her more potent, quicker, and more lethal.

"In my opinion there's quite a consensus that her moment has arrived," states Legend designer the designer. "Certainly she was top-tier previously, but due to the addition of new Legends, mobility perks, and redeployment tools, it felt like she's not very relevant in current the game. This presented an ideal chance for the team to reexamine multiple elements in her abilities and essentially bring her back to her glory days."

Valkyrie's Upgrades

To restore her competitive status in current strategies, the developer notes the team evaluated all her skills and implemented some powerful modifications. Her VTOL Jets received improvements, boosting velocity while airborne, and the jets themselves regenerates much quicker, enabling the player to spend more time in the air. She can no longer be harmed from her ultimate ability, which has also been upgraded to tag enemies who are hit from the missiles. Her squad redeploy ability — which launches her entire squad skyward for repositioning or retreat — now takes reduced delay to activate. Additionally, she gains recently added perk choices that players can choose to reduce fuel consumption, widen the area of her Missile Swarm, or accelerate her ultimate activation.

"Her jet pack now delivers on that jet-fighter fantasy," he comments.

Map Changes

Additionally, the lone airborne map, this location, is getting a movement-friendly overhaul, with an extensive redesign that opens up bottlenecks and renders securing elevated positions more manageable. Respawn state Apex Legends Season 27 is all about providing gamers the resources they need to keep up with the competition.

"Really, we examined the game's core identity as a fast-paced FPS," explains lead Legend designer Josh Mohan.

The battle royale the Amped season releases Nov. 4 at 10 a.m. PST/1 p.m. EST.
