Texas Top Legal Officer Takes Legal Action Against Tylenol Makers Over Autism Claims

Judicial Case
Ken Paxton, who supports former President Trump campaigning for US Senate, claimed the drug companies of hiding safety concerns of Tylenol

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is filing a lawsuit against the makers of acetaminophen, claiming the corporations concealed safety concerns that the drug posed to children's neurological development.

The lawsuit arrives four weeks after Donald Trump promoted an unverified association between consuming acetaminophen - alternatively called paracetamol - throughout gestation and autism in offspring.

Paxton is filing suit against Johnson & Johnson, which previously sold the drug, the only pain reliever suggested for expectant mothers, and the current manufacturer, which now manufacturers it.

In a statement, he stated they "betrayed America by profiting off of discomfort and marketing drugs without regard for the risks."

Kenvue states there is insufficient reliable data connecting Tylenol to autism spectrum disorder.

"These corporations deceived for years, intentionally threatening millions to boost earnings," the attorney general, a Republican, declared.

The company stated officially that it was "very worried by the dissemination of inaccurate information on the safety of acetaminophen and the potential impact that could have on the health of US mothers and children."

On its website, the company also said it had "consistently assessed the pertinent research and there is lacking reliable evidence that demonstrates a proven link between taking paracetamol and autism."

Organizations speaking for doctors and healthcare providers concur.

The leading OB-GYN organization has declared acetaminophen - the main ingredient in Tylenol - is among limited choices for women during pregnancy to treat discomfort and elevated temperature, which can create major wellness concerns if left untreated.

"In more than two decades of investigation on the utilization of acetaminophen in pregnancy, zero credible investigations has definitively established that the use of paracetamol in any trimester of pregnancy results in neurological conditions in offspring," the group commented.

The lawsuit references current declarations from the Trump administration in claiming the drug is allegedly unsafe.

Last month, the former president raised alarms from public health officials when he advised expectant mothers to "struggle intensely" not to consume Tylenol when sick.

The FDA then published an announcement that physicians should consider limiting the usage of acetaminophen, while also stating that "a direct connection" between the medication and autism in minors has not been established.

The Health Department head Kennedy, who manages the Food and Drug Administration, had promised in April to conduct "extensive scientific investigation" that would determine the cause of autism spectrum disorder in a short period.

But authorities advised that finding a unique factor of autism - considered by experts to be the outcome of a complicated interplay of genetic and surrounding conditions - would be difficult.

Autism is a category of lifelong neurodivergence and disability that affects how people encounter and relate to the surroundings, and is diagnosed using physician assessments.

In his legal document, the attorney general - who supports Trump who is running for federal office - asserts Kenvue and Johnson & Johnson "willfully ignored and sought to suppress the science" around acetaminophen and autism spectrum disorder.

The case attempts to require the firms "destroy any commercial messaging" that claims Tylenol is safe for expectant mothers.

This legal action parallels the complaints of a group of guardians of young ones with autism and ADHD who took legal action against the producers of Tylenol in recently.

The court dismissed the lawsuit, saying research from the plaintiffs' authorities was inconclusive.
