Patrick Bamford Joins the Blades Despite Leading Abusive Chants About Coach Chris Wilder

Patrick Bamford has joined Sheffield United just half a year after leading disrespectful taunts directed at their manager, Wilder.

The 32-year-old striker, without a club after departing from Leeds, has signed a deal with the second-tier club in difficulty until January. Bamford's seven-year career with Leeds finished through agreement in August.

Among Bamford’s last memorable actions as a Leeds player was to lead offensive songs regarding Wilder amid the club’s promotion celebrations in April. Currently, the one-cap England player will feature under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to lift his beloved club out of the relegation zone.

Past Conflict Between the Striker and Wilder

Both men had history before Leeds moved up back to the Premier League last season while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider by Sunderland. The manager called the forward as a "muppet" when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and the Blades secured automatic promotion while Leeds fell short in the playoffs.

Reconciliation and Looking Ahead

All appears to have been resolved with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of a boost in attack and Bamford looking to revive his career.

The song about Wilder gained traction in April. A repentant Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the next day.

Chris Wilder stated at the time: “Had a conversation with Patrick recently and I have no issue at all with it. I'm uncertain about the words used from a fellow professional! However I appreciated and respected him calling me.

“We spent a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel as well and had a longer discussion together and he is a great person, a class act. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and accept it and that’s an integral part of the game across all levels, even on Sunday league. I have absolutely no issue. I'm fine with it and I told him that to Patrick.”

Recent Career Struggles

The forward featured in 18 appearances with Leeds United in the previous campaign but the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC and Middlesbrough player has struggled with injury over the past few seasons.
