Flight operations have restarted at Edinburgh Airport following a substantial ATC system failure halted all operations.

All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped because of an systems problem that arose around 08:30.

Several flyers reported being stuck in planes on the runway as the outage continued.

Services Recommence with Ongoing Delays

Officials announced at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

However, ongoing issues are likely to affect schedules. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with numerous other services subject to postponements.

An airport representative had earlier anticipated that a significant number of movements could be affected.

"Passengers are advised to check directly with their airline for the most up-to-date details on their individual travel plans," officials reiterated.

Source of the Issue

The airport attributed the widespread suspension to an IT issue with its air traffic control provider.

Passengers continue to be advised to confirm the details of their flight before heading to the terminal as residual delays are managed.
