Fans Urge Custody of Person Who Seized Ariana Grande
Devoted supporters of the actress are urging that a man who leaped a barrier and grabbed the actress during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be arrested or expelled from Singapore.
A viral clip reveals the Australian man bypassing photographers and rushing toward Grande while the actors walked down a yellow carpet flanked by supporters.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly pulled the stunned performer away from Mr Wen, who was seen being led away of the gathering by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being arrested", though legal records indicated that he was scheduled to be present on the next day. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
History of Event Invasions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a performance. His Instagram account includes recordings of him interrupting other celebrity events, including rushing the platform at the pop singer's Sydney concert in earlier this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last year.
"There needs to be action applied against him as this is clearly a criminal offence," wrote an Instagram follower, in a message to a video Mr Wen shared of his actions.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" one Instagram user wrote.
Followers Show Disapproval Over Grande's Safety
Many supporters accused Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had revealed suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist explosion at the finale of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and wounding numerous individuals.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" wrote another response on Instagram.
Several supporters also faulted event staff at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while some requested social media platforms to block Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In footage circulating online, Grande looked surprised when she was touched by the man. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen consoling her while Mr Wen was led out by staff.
Grande has remained silent on the incident, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Many of attendees had gathered in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good regional debut in a Singapore mall, including a number who had stood in line for as long as many hours before it began.
The film, to be premiered on 21 November, is the second of a two-part interpretation of the acclaimed stage musical Wicked, which centers on the unlikely bond between two distinct witches.
The show itself is a adaptation of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the good witch Glinda, was decked out in a rosé sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a elegant ensemble embroidered with roses.
They were alongside co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the highest-grossing movie of 2024 in the UK, and earned a dozen award recognitions, earning two for outstanding attire and set decoration.
